Help Break Down Barriers to Nature Access
We are seeking a corporate partner to support the Nature Connections programme in Northumberland National Park, which aims to address health inequalities and break down barriers to nature access for young people, particularly those from disadvantaged communities.
This initiative builds on the success of the National Parks core iniatitives by providing targeted interventions for students aged 11–18 who face challenges in accessing the outdoors, contributing to mental health disparities and lack of engagement with nature. Using the Local Health Index and deprivation data, Northumberland National Park work closely with schools to ensure that the programme is tailored to meet the specific needs of students.
Nature Connections (Deeper Intervention Programme):
- A six-week course designed to prioritise self-directed learning, empowering students to explore and engage with nature in ways that resonate personally with them.
- The programme offers a diverse menu of options, including art-based activities, nature exploration, and conservation-focused learning.
- Students will be encouraged to document their journey, reflecting on the emotional and wellbeing impacts of connecting with nature, while developing a deeper understanding of the environment.
The programme will be delivered twice per year (spring and autumn), with 15 students per school taking part in each cycle.
