Connected 11,900+ young people to nature, improving wellbeing and fostering environmental stewardship.
Forest Holidays is the founding partner of National Parks Futures. Launched in 2019, National Parks Futures is a transformative initiative aimed at connecting over 20,000 young people with nature, improving their wellbeing, and fostering environmental stewardship.
Through ongoing support from Forest Holidays, the programme has successfully connected more than 11,900 young people with nature so far through off and on-site experiences, helping them build a deeper understanding of sustainability and conservation, while developing practical skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
A key element of the Futures programme is funding for travel which is seen as one of the biggest barriers to visiting National Parks for schools and community groups. Additionally, Forest Holidays contribute to the success of the Explore the Elements campaign, an online initiative designed to boost engagement with the nature-based resources provided by the National Parks.
One of the primary challenges for National Parks Futures was reaching a diverse group of young people and ensuring their meaningful engagement with nature.
The programme aimed to create lasting change, providing young individuals with practical conservation skills, mental and physical health benefits, and the opportunity to develop a lifelong connection to the environment.
Forest Holidays wanted to help create these immersive experiences while reaching communities across the UK, including those who might not typically have access to outdoor opportunities.
Forest Holidays play a pivotal role in the success of National Parks Futures by providing Education and Travel Fund grants.
These grants enabled young people to participate in outdoor experiences across all fifteen National Parks, fostering connections with nature while helping to build valuable skills.
Forest Holidays’ support ensures the programme reaches diverse youth groups, enabling them to experience hands-on conservation activities, green career opportunities, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
Forest Holidays provide sustainable holidays that help to create a brighter future for people and the planet – one in which they enrich, rather than exploit, the natural world. They want to ensure they provide people with special places to discover, explore and enjoy for many years to come. Guests can choose between twelve inspiring locations, six of which are in National Parks.
It’s a holiday where you can unwind in nature, knowing the forest is properly looked-after too. Forest Holidays offers a unique and special way to enjoy the forest and help people reconnect with nature. Because these connections are good for people and good for nature. You don’t just visit the forest, you really feel it, and the only place you can really find that Forest Feeling is on a Forest Holiday.
Over 97%* of guests feel that a Forest Holidays break has a positive impact on their well-being and connected them with nature and 85.4%* of guests spend time exploring the local area (*CSN scores, June 2019).
