Award-winning brand partnership that installed 136 EV charge points in all 15 National Parks and supported over 20,000 nature interventions.
BMW UK and the National Parks joined forces in 2022 for a 3-year partnership with the Recharge in Nature Project.
The shared aim of this collaboration was to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) charging network across all 15 National Parks, while also supporting a range of accompanying projects, including vital nature restoration, biodiversity, regenerative tourism, and wellbeing initiatives.
With the continued growth of demand for electric cars, the National Parks are under-served by EV chargers and risk being left behind in the transition.
Currently, 90% of the c.90 million annual visits to the National Parks are made by car, therefore expanding the charging network is more important than ever to ensure that visitors, local communities, and staff have better access to more sustainable transportation options.
Recharge in Nature provided a comprehensive solution to these challenges by combining EV infrastructure development with nature restoration and community wellbeing initiatives.
The partnership saw EV chargers installed across all 15 National Parks, as well as provide funding for locally led initiatives that restore and protect natural habitats.
During the partnership BMW directly supported projects like tree planting, the creation of dew ponds, and other regenerative efforts.
Funding also went towards programmes that engage young people through community outreach, providing apprenticeships, and involving them in conservation work, contributing to both biodiversity and local economic growth.
Recharge in Nature has made a significant impact across the National Parks since its launch in 2022:
