Cycle Friendly Cairngorms

Help encourage sustainable travel.

The Cycle friendly Cairngorms project will create the conditions where cycling, as a method of sustainable transport, is an accessible option for all. It is part of Cairngorms 2030, an ambitious programme of 20 interconnected projects – supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund -which will see the Cairngorms become the UK’s first net zero National Park.  

Cycle friendly Cairngorms will enable residents and visitors to embrace travelling by cycle, helping reduce personal car use for short journeys. The project will work in partnership with communities and local businesses to develop a cohesive network of cycles, e-bikes and associated facilities, supported by multiple initiatives to expand and support cycle use for all.  

The project will lead to: 

  • Increased access to cycles through community loan schemes. 
  • A network of public e-bike charging stations. 
  • Installation of long- and short-term cycle parking throughout the National Park. 
  • Promotion of active travel routes.  
  • Skills development classes with local schools and community groups, offering a range of skills including cycle maintenance qualifications.  
  • A dedicated transport grant programme, supporting improved active and sustainable transport.
