Fen Restoration

Invest in One of the UK’s Most Unique Nature Recovery Missions

The Broads is unlike any other National Park in the UK — a living, breathing mosaic of wetlands that deliver for people, wildlife, and the climate. But with 90% of the UK’s wetlands lost – accelerated by the industrial revolution – this extraordinary landscape needs urgent attention.

At the heart of this effort are the fens — waterlogged, reed-filled ecosystems that are home to some of the rarest plant and animal species in Britain. By restoring them, we not only protect biodiversity but also enhance carbon storage, water quality, and natural flood resilience.

Why your support matters:

  • Protect and restore irreplaceable ecosystems
  • Help endangered species thrive — from wetland birds to otters and butterflies
  • Champion natural climate solutions with proven ecological value
  • Join a trusted, collaborative effort led by the Broads Authority and local landowners

Significant progress has already been made. Birds such as the marsh harrier, bittern and crane have made a successful comeback in response to improved fen management in recent decades. However, much more lies ahead. With your backing, we can scale up habitat restoration, remove invasive scrub, and revive native fen flora and fauna.

Together, we can bring wetlands back to life and leave a lasting legacy for generations.
